This 5-day course introduces Image Processing as it is applied for consumer products. We explain how people perceive still images and video, and explain the tools that are used to enhance the viewer's perception, or to compress the video content with minimal perceived loss. The end result is that you will understand why and how Image Processing may be applied in consumer products to enahnce the viewer's visual experience.

You will learn:

• how people perceive still images and video
• how color is perceived differently from shape
• how perception can be enhanced by Image Processing
• how optical images are sampled to become digital
• how image sensors work
• how images may be corrected for scale, lighting and distortion
• how images may be compressed by selectively discarding data

Practical work is based on simple applications of Image Processing techniques. You will:

• see how optical images are sampled
• apply Image Processing to enhance visual perception of images
• apply corrections for scale, lighting and distortion to images
• see how data may be selectively discarded
